German Coat of Arms identification
« am: 06. September 2010, 17:29:21 »
I am trying to determine the family name associated with the coat of arms in the attached photo. It is engraved on the pommel of a German military sword, circa 1900, and I hope to determine who the owner was.

Any suggestions or recommendations as appreciated.

Thank you.

Mark

Upper part and crest: Görtz v. Schlitz
Lower part: Wrisberg.
This is normally only the central part of the much bigger arms of the Counts of Görtz. This is the reason why nobody finds it in the collections.
And this very ugly bird should be a pheasant!

Well, the key was the glass with the bird that could then be associated with a pheasant. With "pheasant" the search was easy, there aren't too many arms with a pheasant, only 15.
