I am not sure of the meanings of any of them.  I have just begun to learn about Heraldry.  Most of my family history is what I have been told by my father.  He remembers some things from our family book that was lost and I have a tape my grandfather left that tells about some of it.  I have spent the last 2 years researching my ancestry.  Until recently I thought I had it precisely tracked.  My grandfather always said his father was named Emil Ernst von der Linde.  He also talked about a relatve who received the Pour Le Merit in WWI.  I was able to track my ancestry through that information and found a Emil Ernst von der Linde who had 2 children(my grandfather and his sister) but the records did not name the children, and who also happened to be the cousin of a Otto Hans Jurgen von der Linde who received the PLM in WWI.  Just recently my father found his dad's birth certificate and it said Emil Paul von der Linde as his father so now I am a little unsure if I have tracked the correct line or he used more then one middle name.  No one in my family remembers my great great Grandfathers name so it is hard to be positive if I have the right line.  The family book that was lost had our family tree back to the 1500's according to my father.  He said he was young and uninterested at the time so he never studied it in detail.  He just remembers the cover of the book and that there was a family tree in the back of the book.

Since I have found that the von Lindenau tree is the same as mine, it makes me wonder if we came from the same origins at one time.  There are printed records of von der Lindes back to the year 1300.  How far back does the von Lindenau name go?  Could it be that a von der Linde began to use the name von Lindedau in the late 1300's or early 1400's?  I have sent a email to the von Lindenau museum but still not heard any information from them.  My letter was in english so will that be a problem for them?

Hi Dominik,

How would I find the crest for the name "Schardius"?  I am trying to verify if it is the unidentified crest on my ring.  I have done a few searches and found nothing.

According to Otto Titan von Hefner's book "Stammbuch des blühenden und abgestorbenen Adels in Deutschland, Band 3", 1865, p. 299, the "Schardius" family went under the name of "Scharden" primarily.
And their arms to be found in Siebmacher Preussen don't fit at all: "bend dexter with 3 roses, a half flying dove on top and bottom" (rough translation).
