Have you ever seen an authentic wyvern? No? So how to draw one if it's necessary for a crest or as a supporter? Grinsend
Recently I came across some very nice examples in bright sunshine, and I think they can give an idea of how to make them better in heraldic design:

I'm quite sure that Dominik knows where I met them.....

Beautiful sample! My Grandpa used to have a smaller one in a birdcage, its colour was green and it was quite mean Zwinkernd.

No idea? I'll help you:
- the photos have been taken last year.
- you just moved away from it a little bit.....
- and the name of the owner of these wyverns was Hugo Damian....
- and his home is very (!) large.
Now it's easy, isn't ist?

Of cause it is! These photos have been taken before we started to our nice trip to Gernsbach and Baden-Baden Grinsend All the photos of Bruchsal palace are still on my hard disc, perhaps I will find some time tomorrow to begin writing about the palace and its heraldry. Now I'm just back from some further training about ear diseases, and I will spend the evening together with a friend playing GO.

Progress report: I'm still at work, all the ground plans are finished, the photos are selected and already downsized, but the texts still need some more time and effort. Altogether we have 14 coats of arms. Sorry, but I have to keep you in suspense a little bit more.....

Beautiful dragon,  Grinsend

That's not a dragon Zwinkernd
In German heraldry, it's usually defined like this: dragon - 4 legs, wyvern - 2 legs. The German translation would be "Drachen" vs. "Lindwurm".
Makes me always think about old maps: "there be dragons" Lächelnd

Don't forget the wings.....
A wyvern should have wings, a lindworm not at all.

Just to give you a glance at the concept of architecture:

The wyverns are at the corners of the main building, altogether four at the eastern front, two at the side corners, two in the middle.

update: I'm still writing, it's a mammoth project, we'll get 15 separate pages about Bruchsal.

But in detail there are as many exact definitions as heraldists, "dragon" is a very elastic term......

Besides, now the story to the pictures is finished, please see http://www.heraldik-und-kunst.de/forum/index.php?topic=219.0
